About Jessica
Jessica Loyd, born 1980, is a professional artist in the Savannah, Georgia area with a home studio in nearby Pooler. Both of her grandmothers were artists and inspired and encouraged her. She has lived in the southeast all of her life and finds inspiration in local nature. Jessica first learned oil painting at the Classic Center in Athens, Georgia as a young stay at home mom. She later took a portrait painting class taught by the artist Daria Callie and fell in love with portraiture. She is currently enrolled in the Milan Mastery Program where she is refining her skills in mixed media and oil painting.
Jessica’s art is in the style of abstract realism with a narrative feel. Each painting tells a story. When painting portraits, Jessica thinks about the relationships between her subjects and their surroundings. She is interested in exploring symbolism, especially in nature. Jessica says, “ I paint the world as I want it to be, which is both healing and cathartic.” Portraits are her favorite because she thinks it is magical seeing a person come to life with a paintbrush. She loves to collaborate with collectors on commissions. Jessica is primarily an oil painter. She paints in layers, allowing some of the previous layers to show. Sometimes she adds meaningful collage papers or gold leaf.
Jessica lives with her husband and pets. She has two grown children. When not painting, she teaches art at a small private school in Savannah. She loves to share her knowledge and inspire a passion for art in her students. You can find prints of her Savannah themed art at Locally Made Savannah on Broughton Street.
Artist Statement
My work explores the intricate relationship between individuals and their natural surroundings. I am particularly drawn to the symbolic language found in nature and its capacity to serve as a mirror for self-awareness and personal growth. I believe in a collective consciousness—an underlying connection that links us all—and that the symbols and imagery we are repeatedly drawn to hold deep, intuitive meaning.
Through oil and mixed media paintings, I depict the world not only as it is, but as I hope it can be—serene, healing, and full of quiet strength. This practice is both cathartic and grounding for me, offering a sense of safety and control in an often chaotic world. Having created a peaceful life for myself, I now channel that tranquility into my art, using it as a foundation for imaginative storytelling and emotional resonance.
Portraits are a particular passion of mine. There is something magical about bringing a subject to life through the brush—capturing not just their likeness, but the essence of their presence. I am especially interested in collaborating with collectors to explore their personal symbols and guide them in discovering signs and meanings within the natural world.
Ultimately, my goal is to create work that inspires a sense of calm, hope, and introspection—art that invites viewers to see beyond the surface and connect more deeply with themselves and the world around them.
